About Mark Matyas

Mark Matyas is a freelance writer from Nutley, New Jersey. Since 1992, he has worked in various business and data analysis jobs to build and hone his professional skills to the best they can possibly be. Even with well over a decade of experience, Mark is constantly looking for new challenges and opportunities to let himself grow and be the best version of himself.

In addition to his business ventures, Mark Matyas is invested in arts and culture. He believes that the arts and culture are one of the most important aspects of society—they are a way to tackle social injustice. Whether through visits to the library, the local theater, galleries, or museums, Mark believes that the arts are the beating heart of the nation’s towns and cities. They bring prosperity to towns and build a closer sense of community within those who participate in the arts.

Most importantly, arts and culture create lives that are worth living. Mark Matyas knows this personally, having participated in theater himself. In 2014, he participated in Nutley Little Theatre’s production of “Wit.” The show focused on patient and scholar Vivian Bearing as she battled her demons and cancer. The show’s opening performance benefited Buddies of New Jersey, proving how theater and the arts can both touch and help the community surrounding it.

Mark Matyas has learned a lot from many people over the years. All of his interactions with people, whether positive, negative, or indifferent, have impacted Mark in some capacity. He has taken all of these interactions in stride to learn and develop both professionally and personally. No one touched his life more than his late wife, Lorraine K. Rak Matyas. As a guiding force in his life, Lorraine was loyal and loving, making her one of the finest people in his life. Her passing has left Mark at a loss, but he will be able to persevere with time.

Professionally, Mark Matyas puts emphasis on understanding entrepreneurship. Understanding entrepreneurship helps one develop effectual reasoning skills, letting them identify goals as they grow and learn strategies to facilitate the growth of those objectives.

Participating in business also means having a good understanding of basic economic principles: how markets are affected by external events, for example, or assessing an outfit’s financial health. Combining business and economics can help people make different, informed choices in their investments and, ultimately, achieve a higher return on investment (ROI).

Before working as a freelance writer, Mark Matyas worked as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Analyst for the United Nations, an Operations Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife), and a Trademark Assistant for Warner-Lambert Company/Pfizer, Inc. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science from Rutgers University in 1999, graduating cum laude. One year later, Mark got his Master of Arts in International Relations and graduated summa cum laude.

In his free time, Mark Matyas enjoys baseball, soccer, fencing, visiting the beach in the Hamptons, gourmet cooking, and traveling. Learn more about Mark Matyas through his blog posts and social media sites.
